The fountains in Sanssouci Park were originally designed by Prussian King Frederick the Great in the 1750s.
After endless efforts and enormous material consumption, the project was finally abandoned in 1780.
The station was built between 1841and 1843.
In 1895, the steam engine was replaced by a new, more powerful engine with 160 horsepower.
Since 1937, the pump is run by two electrically driven centrifugal pumps.
Inside the building a permanent exhibit provides information about the history of the building and the machine.
