The in-app browsers used by Instagram and TikTokare terrible for your privacy.
If you often hit various links in peoples Instagram bios, you should consider clearing your Instagram browsing history.
To start, click any link inside the Instagram app to launch the in-app net net app.
Now nudge the three dots in the top-right corner and selectBrowser configs.
Tap theClearbutton next to Browsing data, and Instagram will erase your browsing history.
Thats far more privacy friendly than using the app (although youll miss out on some features).
You should also stop Instagram from tracking your activity across the internet.
The easiest way to do so is on your iPhone.
Go toSettings > Privacy > Trackingand disableAllow Apps to Request to Track.
Restrict access to your data
you could also reevaluate how much data access Instagram really needs.
How much you limit Instagrams permissions is up to you and the way you use the app.
To start, go toSettings > Privacyon your smartphone and check which permissions Instagram really needs.
Consider stopping Instagram from accessing your contacts and photos at the very least.
This feature is available on iPhone, as well asAndroid 13.
On your iPhone, go toSettings > Privacy > Location Services > Instagram, and disablePrecise Location.
To do this, open Instagram and smack the magnifying glass icon in the bottom bar.
Tap theSee Allbutton below the search bar, then tapClear Allin the top-right corner.
This stops accounts from spamming or harassing you.
Go toPrivacy > Messages.
SelectOthers on Instagramand set this toDont receive requeststo stop strangers from pinging you.
Be aware that these controls do not impact your friends.
To do so, go to Instagram tweaks, thenPrivacy > Activity Status.
Turn offShow Activity Statusfor better privacy.
This feature lets people use your photos, videos, and Reels for their own videos.
To disable this, go to Instagram tweaks, thenPrivacy > Reels and Remix.
Turn off every option on this page to stop others from using your content.
Note that this option will not show up if you have a private account on Instagram.
Go toInstagram configs > Security > Two-factor authentication.
SelectAuthentication appand use apps such as1Password, Google Authenticator, or Authyto receive one-time login codes.
