Input your Mac password if prompted.
Luckily, its quick and simple to hide files and folders in MacOS.
you’re able to reveal hidden files at any time by pressingCommand + Shift + Periodagain.
Control-clicka file or folder, then selectRename.
to the beginning of the file name, then hit enter to save the change.
The file should now be hidden.
PressCommand + Shift + Periodto reveal/hide hidden files.
This might seem like overkill, but its the best way to keep prying eyes away.
you’re free to do this with MacOSs built-in Disc Utility software or third-party applications like 7-Zip.
Heres how it works with Disc Utility:
fire up the tool underApplications > Utilities > Disc Utility.
Once opened, go toFile > new Image > Image from Folder.
pick the folder you want to encrypt and clickChoose.
Select either128-bit AESor256-bit AESfrom the Encryption drop-down.
Create a password for the folder.
check that its a strong password, but check that you keep it memorized or written somewhere safe.
You wont be able to unlock the folder if you lose it.
Once youre happy with the folders controls, selectSavethen wait for the process to complete.
launch the Finder menu and selectGo > Got to Folder.
bang out ~/Library in the file path and clickGoto kick off the secret Library folder.
Doing so encrypts your Mac hard drive and requires a recovery key to unlock and access your files.
