What do they get for the person who is very careful with their money and doesnt seem towantanything?
This post originally appeared onThe Simple Dollar.
It can be a real challenge.
How do you buy a gift for a person with such a frugal mindset?
Last year, I wrote agift guide for frugal peoplethat included a bunch of specific ideas.
While those are all great gift ideas, theyre also somewhatimpersonal.
Here are some ideas that work well as gifts for frugal people.
A frugal person is typically someone who is very careful about spending money on their hobby.
Why not just give them a gift card to, say, Amazon?
A frugal person is going to look at that and think of utility.
Theyre going to use a general-purpose card on general-purpose expenses.
Theyll use an Amazon card to stock up on toothpaste.
Are any of them worn out?
Are any of them cheap or cheaply made?
Again, using myself as an example, I would love a really well made paring knife.
I cut up vegetables constantly with my paring knife.
Do they enjoy wine?
What do you actuallyseethem eating or drinking?
Take those things youve actually witnessed that person enjoying and run with it.
The same is true with wine.
Try hard to think about whattheywould enjoy.
An experience gift.An experience gift is a gift that leads directly to the persondoingsomething rather thanowningsomething.
Again, this works best when you take that persons interests in mind.
For myself as an example, an annual family pass to theLiving History Farmswould be a wonderful example.
There are many ways to do this.
The easiest way to figure this out is to simply browse their social media profiles.
Get them to talk a little about their particular interest andpay attention.
Youll almost always find something to work with in their words.
Put in a little bit of thought and youre almost never going to go wrong.
