you’ve got the option to probably guess where Im going with this weeksTech 911Q&A.
As Lifehacker readerJaywrites:
I recently moved my family of four from Kentucky to Missouri.
I tried buying one of the adaptors that Ive seen recommended.
I removed my hard drive and plugged it into the apparatus.
But none of the pictures of my children from up to 8 years ago.
I tried some freeware to see if that would work… What am I doing wrong?
Or, what has gone wrong?
How do you move a desktop PC?
First, you should probably be able to tell what sounds odd inside your PC.
Pop the side of the case off and put your ear near your systems components.
Do you hear any clicking noises?
Anything that sounds even the slightest bit off?
If its going bad, consider that drive to be your last-ditch source of data.
Youll want to work with a backup of its contents whenever possible.
That leads me to think that something is wrong with this, not your video card.
And that could explain why your monitor has no signal when youre booting up your rig.
About those missing photos
Regardless, you cant find your old photos, and thats a problem.
In short, if its not on the new copy that gets made, its probably not recoverable.
From there, cross your fingers that you, oryour favoritefile-recovery app, can turn up your missing data.
you could never have too much protection.
Then, when youre at your new location, unpack your gear.
