Im describing this in present tense, because this (seemingly)invite-only programstill exists on Android.
I dont blame you.
Why would Facebook apologize if it feels it did nothing wrong?
Despite early reports, there was nothing secret about this; it was literally called the Facebook Research App.
All of them with signed parental consent forms.
How long has this been going on?
Since 2016, says the originalTechCrunchreport.
Can I sign up now?
you’ve got the option to still download the Apple-banishedOnavo appfrom Google Play, after all.
Get some ofthat sweet referral cash, right?
Why does Apple care so much about this and not Google?
Different platforms; different rules.
Apple tends to have stricter privacy policies in place for apps than Google.
As I mentioned, you’re free to download it right now if you want.
(You shouldnt.)
As for Facebook Research, you wont find an app with that name on the Google Play Store.
But Apple is mad, right?
The program issupposedto allow companies to install customized or proprietary apps on employees devices.
Putting the pieces together?
Facebook asked participants in its program to install an Enterprise Developer Certificate and a VPN.
Oh, and by revoking this certificate, Apple has alsowrecked Facebooks ability to distribute its own internal apps.
Reap what you sow, Facebook.
If youre in iOS, go toSettings>General>Profiles.
If you see a Facebook Research profile, delete it.
On Android, you should just be able to look for the Facebook Research app.
If it exists, delete it.
Can I still use the Facebook app?
Sure.Do you really want to, though?
Is anyone else about to get smacked by Apple for running a similar program?
