ItsWork From Home Week!
At home, theres … nobody.
Too many days of confinement and you forget how topeople.
Fellow remote employees and freelancers tell me they must actively fight isolation while working from home.
Here are some ways to do it (and not all of them involve putting on real pants).
Work at a cafe.Even doing so once a week can give you a boost.
People are there to have conversations, and the noise energizes me.
Work at a bar.Heres whyLifehacker food & beverage editor Claire Lower swears by it.
Also, if you work in similar fields, you could talk shop and bounce ideas off each other.
The interactions they have are interesting and help fuel their creativity.
Find local groups to join or classes to take.Check Meetup, Facebook or Nextdoor for ideas.
It could be happy hour, game night, working out together, or just catching a movie.
Plan things ahead of time so you always have social stuff to look forward to.
Looking forward to things helpssomuch.
Talk to a therapist. This is good for everyone to do, really.
I connect with people on Twitter and Facebook and our work Slack.
The days before Slack were very lonely for me!
Get a pet. They really can be the best office mates.
Catherine, a writer, says, I talk to my dog like shes a friend and coworker.
Well, I dont care.
Embrace the solitude. When asking people how they fight isolation, a friend Eddie replied, Fight isolation?
Thats how work gets done.
If anything, Im fighting distractions and interactions.
Youre all by yourself!
