The GoPro is yourfavorite action camera, and its easy to understand why.

Its versatile, powerful, and sturdy.

Dont waste that $500there are plenty of other creative ways to get even more out of your GoPro.

My fiance and I bought a GoPro a couple of years ago.

We took it on a couple of trips, snapped some underwater snorkeling photos and some fun time-lapse shots.

And then it started collecting dust.

Recently, though, I decided to pick it back up.

I wanted to see what else you could do with it beyond the standard action videos.

You just have to choose the right options for the job.

Wide is great for those standard GoPro action shots because youll get everything in your peripheral view.

Medium is great for regular video, and narrow is perfect for tighter more focused shots.

Resolution

Then theres resolution.

Heres a brief explanation of what kind of shots youll get with each.

4k: Awesome quality for wide, panoramic shots.

1080 Super: This resolution takes a 1440 video and then squeezes it down to a 1080 size.

Useful when you want to shoot super slow motion, though.

It doesnt look great blown up, but its decent for stuff you want to share on social media.

Ive generally always used 1080p, wide FOV, at 30fps.

1080p/Wide/60fps:This is the most versatile setting.

In short, you get great quality and versatility, as GoPro siteClickLikeThis puts it.

With 120fps, you also get more scope to play around with if youre editing slow-motion video.

Check out Gizmodos video above for an example.

Of course, these are just a few specific combination suggestions.

This tip works with any key in of digital camera too.

Thecamera strapped to the dog.

The bottom of the pool.

These shots also waste the GoPros versatility.

you’ve got the option to make some really interesting videos when you mix up your shots.

Or hook it to the front of your bike and get your face, too.

Change the prefs and get some tighter, narrow shots of the bike itself.

Change the settingsagainand set your frame rate super high to get some fantastic video for slow motion editing.

Add an External Microphone

Another reason I put down the GoPro is the sound quality sucked.

My phones built-in mic was significantly better.

Take Batch Photos

Of course, the GoPro can take photos, too.

Its not what theyre known for, so its an easy feature to overlook.

it’s possible for you to, however, just set and forget it.

From the cameras Time Lapse controls, you might set your GoPro to take a photo every few seconds.

Youll toss most of these photos out, but youll have a handful of great shots worth keeping.

Of course, you’re free to also just use Time Lapse feature for fun time lapse videos.

The camera brings more than that to the table, though.
