Last week we learned you canjailbreak every current model of Kindle.
Even better, while the process is a bit time-consuming, its also pretty easy to do.
The end result is a Kindle thats a little more pleasurable to use.
Heres how to do it.
Of course, its about more than custom screensavers.
If you have an older model, head over toMobileRead for a variety of different guides.
First things first, you want to back up your equipment before you restore it to its default prefs.
This deletes everything on your Kindle.
Connect your Kindle to your machine with a USB cable.
Copy the contents of the Documents folder on your Kindle over to your gear.
This is all your books and any files youve sent to your Kindle.
Once thats complete, its time to restore your Kindle to factory defaults.
This will erase its contents, get rid of your tweaks, and remove any saved passwords you have.
Your Kindle will now wipe itself clean and reboot.
This can take a few minutes, so sit back and relax.
once you nail you model number, its time to downgrade your Kindle.
Connect your Kindle to your rig using a USB cable.
Eject the Kindle and disconnect the USB cable.
Youre going to do this several times throughout the jailbreak process.
Step Three: drop in the Jailbreak
Its time to drop in the jailbreak.
Plug your Kindle into your system with a USB cable.
Copy the entire Branch Delay file to the root directory of your Kindle.
Eject and unplug your Kindle.
Tap the Search bar on your Kindle, and key in;installHtmlthen press Enter.
Your gear will reboot and youll see a new book called You are Jailbroken.
Now, your rig is jailbroken, but youre not done yet.
Head to MobileReadand download the jailbreak ZIP file.
Unzip the Kindle-5.4-jailbreak.zip file inside that ZIP file.
Copy the entire contents of the Kindle-5.4 unzipped folder onto the root folder on your Kindle.
Eject and unplug your Kindle.
Thats it, your Kindle is now jailbroken.
Skip the next step in this guide and head straight to step five.
Download and unzip the Hot Fix file.
Copy the BIN file you unzipped onto the root directory of your Kindle.
On your Kindle, tap Menu > options > Menu > revamp your Kindle.
The update will run, then reboot your equipment.
When its finished, youre all done with the jailbreak process.
Head to Amazons official firmware pageand find your model.
Your Kindle will now update to the newest firmware while retaining the jailbreak.
This simplifies installing software onto your Kindle.
Head to this MobileRead pageto find the most recent version of the installer.
Download and unzip the MRPI file.
Plug in your Kindle to your setup with a USB cable.
Copy the entire contents of the ZIP file to the root directory of your Kindle.
You should end up with an Extensions folder and a mrpages folder on your Kindle.
On your Kindle, tap the search bar, then punch in;log mrpito complete the installation.
Head to the KUAL pageand download the ZIP file.
Youll find detailed instructions inside the the readme file in the ZIP archive.
Thats it, now MRPI and your launcher are installed.
