I normally usethis weekly columnto answer peoples technology-themed questions.
The problem was I inputted an incorrect recovery email address, I missed 2 digits off my email.
Therefore the 2 step verification wouldnt work.
I never get asked any questions such as when was your account created.
I present this reader story as a cautionary tale.
Regular (free) Google users get aHelp Centerand some community forums, but thats it.
And while Im a little snarky about this, I do see Googles point of view.
First off, most people arent paying Google a dime for the services theyre using.
You might pay Google a little per monthfor some extra storage, but thats about it.
Why dedicate a not-so-insignificant amount of resources to a service center for free services?
It also makes it harder for others to get intoyouraccount.
To get started, visit theSecuritysection of your Google account configs.
Next, scroll up a smidge and click on2-Step Verification.Youll have to input your password again.
On the subsequent screen, verify that youve turnedonGoogles two-step verification to better protect your account.
Assuming you have, scroll down a bit and choose Show Codes under the Backup codes section.
While youre here, you might as well also verify youve entered your correct birthday, too.
Even if it costs you a few bucks a month, its worth every penny.
Thats my advice to everyone, and it applies to more than just Google.
Youll be glad you did now, if (or when) you have to deal with this later.
