It has guided runs, training plans, and an incredibly good companion app for the Apple Watch.
What is Nike Run Club?
Nike Run Clubis an app for bothiOSandAndroid.
You do need to create a free account, but thats it.
If youd like to track the mileage on your shoes, you might add your shoes to the app.
(you’ve got the option to safely ignore this tab.)
you could dive into the library of guided runs from here.
Training plans
Nike Run Club has a barebones feature for training plans.
Your options are get started, 5K, 10K, half-marathon, and marathon race distances.
You have a plan now.
It doesnt tailor the plan to your schedule or your fitness level.
When you do a run from the training plan screen, youll earn an orange checkmark next to it.
Each days workout comes with a suggested guided run, or you might choose to run unguided.
So far, so good.
But the plans have two major drawbacks, besides the lack of personalization.
One is that you have to usethat specificguided run to get the checkmark.
And what do you do if you train for two 10Ks in a year?
Youll just have to hear the same guided runs all over again.
And those runs wont count for your training plan, either.
The app can pair with a heart rate chest strap if youre running without a watch.
I wasnt able to test this, since I dont have friends using the app right now.
Nikes documentation about the app tells you how toreceivecheers, but not how to send them.
The options are limited, but I think they look kinda cool.
(Again: Roast me.)
What you might do with and without a subscription
Good news: no subscription for this app!
All the features are available on the free tier, and there is no paid tier.
If you want a running app that works well on the Apple Watch, this is a great app.
Im going to take another minute to talk about the guided runs.
The motivational talks are cheesy, but they work on me.
I remember Coach Frankie telling me on one run: I like your dedication.
And I like the ease with which youre handling this pace.
Its a canned speech!
He doesnt know me!
And yet, I felt seen, and appreciated, and encouraged.
(Itwillkeep track of your weekly mileage, though.)
Dont choose this app if youre a Garmin devotee.
Youll have to log everything on two devices at once.
Serious runners should probably stick to an app that focuses more on performance metrics and personalized training plans.
