Robert Falcon Scotts hut is located on the north shore of Cape Evans on Ross Island in Antarctica. After 1917 the hut remained untouched until 1956 when US expeditioners dug it out of the snow and ice. While food are largely preserved due to the freezing temperatures and dry climate, bacterial decay still occurs. Roter Sand Lighthouse Turned Hotel in Germany

But the lighthouse itself is 125 years old. But by 1964 its steel foundations became unstable and the lighthouse was decommissioned. Earlier the lighthouse keepers were hauled up to the lighthouse in a large basket. A picture from 1929 shows the use of the basket. There is also no electricity or heating. Day trips to the Roter Sand run around 75. But those hoping to visit the Roter Sand will have to be patient....
