We spend a lot of time on our iPhones doing simple, repetitive tasks we shouldnt have to do.

What are iPhone automations?

Theres a special tab in the Shortcuts app calledAutomation.

Here, you’re free to define actions that are automatically triggered when something happens.

(And that something is quite a long list.)

Lets first set up an automation so you have an idea of what were talking about.

Now, youll see the shortcut builder interface.

Here, tapAdd Action, search for and add theSet Focusaction.

Then, choose theFocus, and switch to theOnoption.

And, there you have it; your automation is enabled.

That was just one example.

The steps for setting these up will be the samethe only difference will be the action part.

Also, when youre on the last page of the Automation setup, remember to disable theAsk Before Runningoption.

If you dont do this, the automation wont run automatically.

To make it truly seamless, disable theNotify When Runoption as well.

But what if you could create notifications tohelpyourself?

Choose any trigger point you want.Time of Day,Battery Level,Leave, depending on your needs.

Then, choose theShow Notificationaction and customize the text.

Thats it, you should see the notification when the trigger is, well, triggered.

Choose Bluetooth as a trigger, and link your machine.

ChooseOpen Appas the action, and tapAppto grab the app of choice.

The next time you connect to that rig, it will automatically fire up the selected app.

If you want to open a particular Spotify playlist, use theOpen Linkoption, and paste the playlist link.

you’ve got the option to link it to a Focus as well.

To do that, choose theBattery Leveltrigger, with theEquals %option set to the % you want.

Use theSet Low Power Modeoption, and confirm its set toOn.

This can be done when you enable a Focus mode, or when you leave or reach an area.

Then, choose theSend Messageaction, and customize theMessageand theRecipientspart.

It merely disables them until 5 a.m. the next morning.

Creating a shortcut toactually disable them is a good idea.

This can really help you conserve your battery life.

After choosing the trigger, use theSet Bluetooth,Set Wi-Fi, andSet Cellular Dataoptions, and switch themOff.
