Its time to eat a Juicy Lucy and avoid the Mall of America!

You gave us your best Twin Cities travel tips in theoriginal comment thread, and here are the highlights.

The stereotypical Minnesotan accents do exist, but mostly further north, dontcha know.

Were very good at making sure you dont notice the moment at which it evaporates, too.

What to eat

Get a damn Juicy Lucy while youre here.

Go to Matts Bar in South Minneapolis.

Its the best Lucy.

The other restaurants boasting them are better restaurants with inferior Lucies.

dansplainer

Have breakfast at Hells Kitchen.

Especially if its Sunday, where they have a jazz combo playing for brunch.

Bakeries/Ice Cream:A Bakers Wife,Izzys Ice Cream,Wuollet,Salty Tart.

Coffee:Spyhouse,Dogwood,Kopplins Coffee,Quixotic.

Bea Arthurs Side Eye

The Butcher & The Boar might be the best restaurant in the Twin Cities.

Breakfast and a game of bowling atBryant-Lake Bowl.

Really great breakfast in an old fully operational bowling alley.

Most notable of these would be Insight Brewery, Dangerous Man, Sociable Ciderworks, Indeed Brewing, 612 … Winston Smith

Surly is an excellent brewery and their beer hall/restaurant is excellent.

MSP is completely underrated as a beer destination.

Crazy selection and a really cool historic location.

What to see

Lets get the first thing out of the way.

The Mall of America is just a mall.

Theres nothing special about it other than having a lot more walking area than other malls.

Its often over crowded and parking can be a nightmare.

I strongly recommend tooling about the Minneapolis chain of lakes.

AtomicSnowman again

If you come in the Winter, accept what youve done.

Its cold, it snows, deal with it.

Dress appropriately (with gloves) and youll be fine.

Between parks, historical sites and theater, you will not be bored.

Also, some really good restaurants.

The Minneapolis Art Institute was definitely a highlight.

It was free admission with a $10 recommended donation, and they have a lot of great artwork.

They also offer regular tours, which provide really interesting background and context on some of their masterpieces.

Our guide was super friendly and knowledgeable.

Getting around

Unfortunately, our public transit kinda sucks.

Plan to rent a car if you’re able to.

Use the 28th Ave station (couple blocks away) instead.

This, from a daily light rail rider.

(Think of it as a Human Habitrail).

Getting out of town

For getting away, you dont have to go far.

A few miles west of Minneapolis is Lake Minnetonka.

tamoriel

I recommend Excelsior, MN.

Winston Smith

The awful security lines at MSP cannot be understated.

The security line will often be 60-90 minutes.

Other times usually not quite so bad.
