The captioning happens on-gadget, so it functions even when youre in airplane mode.
Googlesaysits also working with other unit manufacturers to make it more widely available in the coming year.

For those who dont yet have access to Live Caption, try out its sibling feature called Live Transcribe.
Once enabled, its accessible via the bottom navigation bar.
By default, you could use Live Transcribe with two languages.
Sound Amplifier effectively amplifies ambient sound and spoken word thats picked up by wired headphones plugged into your phone.
Its available in the Accessibility section of the Android configs menu under Audio & On-screen Text.
Like Live Transcribe, you could toggle the feature on and off from the bottom navigation bar.
The slider is available in the Accessibility tweaks underneath Sound Amplifier.
Move the slider as youre listening to music or spoken word until it sounds preferable.
Kemler also alluded to some new Talkback features intended to aid the blind and visually impaired.
The only caveat is that some third-party apps arent compatible with this feature.
