One end of the house is four feet shorter than the other.

But as mining progressed, the land became unstable causing sections of the ground to collapse.

Many buildings sank into the ground or moved, but the Crooked House moved more than the others.

Siden means crooked in the local Black Country dialect.

When the estate came under the possession of the Glynne family, the pub was renamed to Glynne Arms.

Shortly after the end of WW II the house was deemed unsafe and closed to the public.

The house hasnt moved in years and is apparently quite safe again.

Nevertheless, it is constantly monitored and tiny glass filaments are positioned over any cracks to check for movement.

If the glass breaks it will mean the pubs shifting again.

Update:The Crooked House was gutted by a fire on 5 August, 2023.

Two days later it was demolished by its new owner who had recently bought the property.

The demolition had taken place without permit.

Locals suspect foul play.

The ramp like structures on the left of the house are buttresses added to prevent the house from leaning.
