Baclogypsina sphaerulatais a protozoa belonging to the family Calcalinidae.
In Iriomote Island, it can be found at every beach, if you look for it carefully.
It is abundant at Hoshizuna no Hama.
The locals have a different story.
According to them, the star shells are the tiny offspring of the Southern Cross and the North Star.
Their tiny skeletons are all that remains.
