Twenty five years ago, Thilafushi was a pristine lagoon.
Within a month the garbage began to arrive.
So much is being deposited that the island is growing by a square meter each day.
Waste became such a problem that the government once banned dumping garbage on the island in 2011.
A fraction of the waste is now getting exported to India to be recycled.
