The Mail app on iPhone got quite a visual overhaul iniOS 18.2.

For longtime Mail app users on the iPhone, that’s a big shiftwith seemingly minimal returns.

The contact photos feature is perhaps the worst offender here, as most icons are just stock Apple icons.

Mail app with Contact Photos.

And this is the case with the vast majority of email addresses.

And you don’t need to go all the way into options to do this, either.

Anyone can now sign up anddownload the iOS developer beta, though I generally don’t recommend it.

Disable Show Contact Photos in Mail app.

These things are usually ironed out by thetime the public beta hits.

The public beta is also easier to install, and more stable.

Ah, the good old days.

Disable other Mail AI features

Alternatively, it’s possible for you to also use the prefs app to disable this feature.

Here, go toApps>Mailand then disable theShow Contact Photosoption.

That’s because of the Categories View and the Priority Mail section.

Every iPhone running iOS 18.2 or higher will see these options in the menu.

Here, switch toList Viewto get rid of the Categories section, and then uncheckShow Priorityto remove Priority Mail.
